Meet Gina

Hi, I’m Gina, and I was diagnosed with MS in 1994 when I was 24 years old. At that time, I had a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old.

I don’t let my MS get me down – I love life. I love dancing, singing, sports (especially football), being with my family, uplifting people and just having fun! I really enjoy talking to people and if I believe in something, I will share it.

“I love life!"

I’m married, I have two children and five grandchildren aged between 6 and 11.

My MS diagnosis

It wasn’t always like this. I hate to use this word, but I was devastated when I was diagnosed with MS, it just deflated me completely. I cried for the first year of my diagnosis, and then one day, I just woke up, and said “What am I doing? I’m not going to let this get me down.” And I have not let it get me down since! Have you heard that saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? Well, that’s true in everything!

“I just kept going.”

My first symptom of MS was memory loss. I could be talking to someone and then all of a sudden, I forgot how to talk or how to bring the words to talk. Then I noticed my mouth starting to draw up and I thought it was a stroke. I had an MRI scan and was diagnosed with MS. I started taking some herbal medicine which was doing great, but when I stopped, things got a lot worse. My husband was pushing me around in a wheelchair, that’s how bad it got. Now I love to bust a move and dance and clap to the beat – despite having MS for 30 years, people look at me and can’t tell I have MS.

Taking TASCENSO ODT® (fingolimod).

In 2005, my doctor prescribed me with Gilenya® (fingolimod) capsules. I had no issues with Gilenya®, but I know everyone is different.

I took Gilenya® for years, and then one day my doctor told me about TASCENSO ODT. He mentioned that it just melts on your tongue, and that really struck me. I looked into it and saw it was the same fingolimod. I did have to think about it as Gilenya® had been working for me, but in the end, it was a no-brainer for me.

“I love, love, love it!”

And the fact that it melts on the tongue, that really is a big thing for me. I love, love, love it. It’s so easy, you just put it on your tongue and then you don’t have to do a thing. I’m pumped on taking it, my whole family knows how excited I am about it!

“It is the best thing ever versus having to swallow a pill”

It’s also a comfort knowing the Cycle Vita™ support team is there for me if I need them.* I’m speaking to them now and they are super-duper nice. I don’t interact with them a whole lot because I don’t need to, but it’s a comfort knowing they’re there if I need help with anything. They remind me of the tree in Avatar, it’s safe and makes you feel good.

I hardly spoke to anyone at Gilenya® but the Cycle Vita team call and text and want to know how everything’s going, which is a definite plus. My doctors are extremely, extremely busy, but I know I can get through to Cycle Vita if I call or text.

“It has been a comfort knowing that Cycle Vita is there.”

My advice for someone with MS

If you have MS, I would definitely tell you to look into TASCENSO ODT. I know everyone’s different but check it with your doctor. It’s so easy to take and it’s got the same fingolimod. And if you can’t remember the name, think of Elvis Presley’s song, ‘Return to sender’, because it sounds like ‘Return Ta-scensa’.

“The biggest thing I’d say, is how easy TASCENSO ODT is.”
